24th Inter-University Symposium on Asian Megacities (IUSAM) will be held on September 4 - 7, 2019 at the base of the Institute of Architecture and Design of the Pacific State University.
The theme of the symposium: "City: spaces of communication"
Today, more than half of the world's population lives in cities that occupy only three percent of land areas. At the same time, several dozens of agglomerations have crossed the line of ten million people and in the near future the first super-megapolises are expected to emerge. The total population of urban areas will exceed one hundred million people.
Cities are the face of human civilization, a reflection of the cultural, social, technological level of society development. The modern urban space is increasingly merging with the general information space. Cities, especially large megacities, concentrate infinite information flows. City develops not only in space, but also in the information field. Freedom of transit of information leads to the development of multiculturalism, which becomes the main characteristic of the modern city, where the historical background is inextricably linked with futuristic technologies, and the European colonial heritage with national cultural traditions.
The development of new means of communication and high availability of high-speed transport leads to the geographical distance is becoming a lesser barrier - every city turns into a part of a global city whose areas - Moscow, New York, Singapore, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Guangzhou - are separated from each other not thousands of kilometers, but several hours of travel.
Complication and acceleration of the cities’ life processes gives rise to the desire of our society to create a smart, safe, and sustainable environment. Today, such modern trends as: smart city, green architecture, green standard cover all urbanized areas of the world.
Cities become the key to sustainable development and common prosperity, a space of cultural dialogue between East and West, past and future, traditional way of life and new progressive ideas.
The favorable scenario of the future cities development may cause a cascade effect for the entire civilization. The complexity of the organization and functioning of the cities leads to the need for a comprehensive solution of managerial, infrastructural and semantic tasks at a qualitatively different level.
Papers on the following topics are particularly welcomed:
· Modern problems of development and reconstruction in town planning;
· In search of regional identity;
· Ecological sustainability, problems of resource saving and safety of populated areas;
