Medieval period in Japan from the Kamakura period (1185-1333) to the Tokugawa period (Edo) (1600-1868), is characterized by active construction of locks and as a consequence is the development of a castle town. Development features a castle town were no walls, strict hierarchical settlement structure, the presence of the gate on the streets, which created a plurality of closed cells for defense and high building density neighborhoods. Spatial development of the castle town occurred in a spiral and had clearly hierarchical structure. This article discusses the four stages of forming blocks castle town.
