ACCOUNTING FOR NATURAL AND CLIMATIC CONDITIONS IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF CULVERTS IN THE PROCESS OF RECONSTRUCTION OF THE HIGHWAY (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE SECTION OF THE HIGHWAY "RAZDOLNOEHASAN" KM.49 - KM.60)

In the article the question of peculiarities of taking into account the natural
and climatic conditions during the construction of culverts in the process of reconstruction of
the highway was considered. The influence of hydrological and climatic factors on the culverts
in this area of reconstruction was studied. The raised questions are considered on an example of
reconstruction of highway "Razdolnoe - Hasan", located in Primorsky Krai.
In the article the question of peculiarities of taking into account the natural and climatic
conditions during the construction of culverts in the process of reconstruction of the
highway is considered. The influence of hydrological and climatic factors on the culverts in
this area of reconstruction was studied. The raised questions are considered on an example
of reconstruction of highway "Razdolnoe - Hasan", located in Primorsky Territory.
In the section of the road in question, repair of the drainage pipes was not carried out in
due time, or the defects were partially eliminated. Since a blocked pipe could lead to erosion
and subsequently to erosion of the roadbed, it was decided to replace all culverts in the area under
consideration, thus eliminating the above violations, in order to improve the diversion of
water and ensure the safety of traffic vehicles.
The highway "Razdolnoye - Hasan" connects several ports. Most of the traffic flow is
heavy vehicles. Since the most significant problem in the operation of reinforced concrete pipes is that under the periodic impact of the load from vehicles, especially heavy vehicles, rapid deformation
and destruction of the protective layer occurs, the waterproofing of the pipe is disrupted.
In addition, micro-deformations of the pipe body occur from the vibrational effect of the
transport load and the plastic deformations of the roadbed, which subsequently leads to the runaway
of the links of the pipe.
Metal corrugated prefabricated structures have a number of advantages over designs of
other types:
• Adaptability, which makes it possible to select the most suitable variant for different
concrete construction conditions due to different pipe cross sections;
• Low weight facilitates the transportation of SMGK sheets, and their packing in pallets
significantly reduces the space occupied by the sheets;
• Simplicity of installation, allowing construction of the pipe using SMGK sheets without
special skills and qualifications;
• High strength and flexibility of the design, provided when used in conjunction with
the filling soil. In addition, this provides greater seismic resistance than that of concrete structures;
• Long service life, reaching 80-100 years, as shows the long-term practice of using
such structures;
• Low cost, allowing to reduce costs when using SMGC by 30-50% compared to the use
of other materials.
Since the road in question has not only regional but also international significance, the
natural and climatic conditions of the construction area, as well as the composition of the traffic
flow, must be taken into account during the reconstruction.
Taking into account the above-mentioned parameters, an optimal version of the culvert
was selected at the section of the road in question, and timely and constant maintenance and
repair of artificial structures will help maximize the service life of the culvert.
