TECHNICAL AND ECOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF ANTI-CORROSION ADDITIVES FOR WATER COOLING SYSTEMS OF DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES

The article describes techno-ecological and hygienic characteristics of anticorrosion
additives used in water-cooled systems of diesel locomotive engines. The article con -
siders the important role of these reagents in reliable and economical operation of diesel de -
vices. Basic requirements for anti-corrosion additives, advantages and disadvantages of their in -
dividual components are described. Special attention is paid to nitrite-phosphate additives, especially
to the phosphate component. The anti-corrosion impact of nitrite-phosphate composition
on steel piano wire at elevated temperatures was simulated with the help of the Full Factorial
Experiment (FFE). The possibility of steel corrosion intensification in the static mode in case of
usage of low-concentrated phosphate solutions was established. According to the authors, phosphates’
anti-corrosion protection effect mainly depends on their concentration, water flow rate,
chemical composition and temperature. The article raised the question of phosphorus extraction
from waste cooling water with its return to the technology cycle. The solution of this issue will
reduce the phosphate load on water bodies and sewage networks. The technology of local purification
of diesel locomotives cooling water from phosphates, based on the enhancement of coag -
ulation processes by the combined action of a magnetic field and iron filings, was suggested.
