COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF MANGANESE REMOVAL METHODS FROM GROUND WATERS
The scientific sources review presented in this article fortifies that manganocompounds
are by no means safe and minor foreign substances in drinking water. There are shown
sanitary characteristics of manganese flowing in organism with water. Arguments for strict observance
of international drinking water standards concerning manganese are adduced. Moreover,
there is a survey of factual material about iron and manganese content in ground waters of Russia
and foreign countries. Special attention is paid to iron and manganese removal methods selecting
that depends on initial water parameters, water purification plant capacity, and sanitary requirements.
Experimentative results demonstrate that opportunities of reagentless and oxidizing demanganation
methods can be quickly and easily realized in laboratory settings, their application range is estimated.
Obtained results will make for better specialists’ revision of potassium permanganate usage as an
effective oxidizing agent of divalent manganese. Possibilities of the PAN-method (with pyridylazonaphthol)
for manganese quantitative estimation in water are presented.
