The article is devoted to the post-war restoration of one of the oldest Russian
historical cities - Pskov. During the war, the city of Pskov suffered enormous damage: most of
the architectural monuments had severe damage or ruin the character, more than 50% of the
housing stock of the city was destroyed, especially the central regions. All these facts required
immediate action to preserve and protect the remaining unique monuments of ancient Russian
architecture and create a new city, which will retain its distinctive features.
The general plan for the restoration of Pskov was compiled by architects of Lenproject
organization: A. I. Naumov and Yu. G. Kruglyakov under the direction of N.V. Baranov and
with the participation of the architect and restorer Y. P. Spegalsky. The task of restoring the historic
city was the most time consuming and responsible since the monuments of antiquity themselves
do not determine its historical environment. For Pskov, it was necessary to create the
right holistic historical environment, combining the diversity of the needs of modern man. The
research was based on the study of archival sources and field studies, which made it possible to
reconstruct several schemes that vividly demonstrate the development of the issue of the restoration
of the city of Psckov.
