COLORISTIC DECISIONS OF THE CITY ENVIRONMENT. FUNCTIONAL AND AESTHETIC VALUE

This article is devoted to the analysis of the color of urban space - a combination of color choices in the formation of an aesthetic urban picture. The main factors that shape
the color image of the city are derived. The role of color in creating a harmonious urban space
with all visually perceived objects (natural, architectural, technical, art objects and others) is
revealed. The utilitarian color functions responsible for orientation in an urban environment and
the artistic and aesthetic functions responsible for visual comfort are considered. The question
of the effect of color on the psychological, emotional and physiological health of a person, on
the need for knowledge about the properties of color, is raised, as the creation of a comfortable
urban environment is based not only on architectural solutions, but also on the proper use of a
rich color palette. The paper explores the coloristic decisions of Khabarovsk, reveals the natural-climatic features (light climate, large difference of temperature in winter and summer, hilly
terrain, rich flora) and architectural features (historical center and characteristic building material) of the city, the advantages and disadvantages of the color appearance, describes the main
problems (color glut, lack of integrity, monotony, inexpressive color) and their possible solutions. Color chaos or the uniformity of color in the urban environment is an actual problem for
many cities, so in this article, coloristics is considered as an integral part of urban planning and
it becomes an urgent task for architects, urban planners and designers.
