Revealing the potential of organizing the territories adjacent to apartment buildings as a structural part of the urban public spaces
The article dwells on integrated approaches to the organization of the network of public open spaces in the city. Special attention is given to the development strategies of small-scale public spaces and territories adjacent to apartment buildings, which till nowadays are not well-planned in comparison with the public spaces of bigger scale. The potential of such territories in Russian cities as a reserve of comfortable and interesting places is revealed. Also special attention is given to the current state of the territories adjacent to apartment buildings and the requirements imposed to their state by citizens. Thus, the main request for today is to create a safe urban environment, whose further development could be used for different purposes. The main groups of people's needs forming the requirements for the organization of urban public spaces are presented. On the basis of this analysis the necessity of a new approach to the organization of the territories adjacent to apartment buildings which would take into account both the daily needs of the local population and the possibility of inclusion of global city scenarios is shown.
