THE RE-EXPLANATION OF THE ARCHITECTURAL SPACE IN “NEW MEDIA” ERA
The Industrial Revolution from the late 19th century to the early 20th century has brought human beings into modern civilization. The strong technological innovation has boosted the transformation of architectural space from classical to modern and led to a booming development of architectural space for about a century. The rapid development of information technology has boosted human beings marching into an era of information from the mid of 20th century till now. The changes of the architectural space are there for all to see. “New media”, “digital technology”, “network construction” and “information city” structured by “virtual space” have become the hot topics among the architectural
fields. New types of architectural spaces come into being endlessly, which keeps changing
the space concepts of people. The art of “new media” has covered all fields of peoples’ life. There are changes in the limitations, functions, structures and form of architectural space. New space theories are entering into peoples’ life step by step. This thesis conducts comprehensive analysis of four aspects of space variations (including: the limitations, functions, structures and form) and re-explains the architectural space in new media era.
